Joint Seminar Week2017

CODE PATRAS RAIL & CITY - Workshop of Ideas
11-17 June 2017 | Patras, Greece

ETH Zurich - Institute of Spatial and Landscape Development, University of Patras – Department of Architecture and NTUA Athens – School of Architecture, in the framework of the joined academic initiative, which started in 2012, with the task of articulating sustainable alternative solutions for the railway connection, the transport reorganization and urban redevelopment of the Patra’s waterfront area, organized the second international student seminar with the topic: The central railway station Ayios Dionyssios in Patras.
The goal, apart from the educational process itself, is the study and the outcome of useful conclusions for the railway, urban, and socioeconomic development of Patras and the formation of alternative proposals about the old railway station of Ayios Dionyssios. The unique urban characteristics and topography of the area as a “balcony towards the Patraikos Gulf” can be an inspiration as well for the academic research initiative as for the future exploitation of the station.
In the Workshop 43 graduate and post-graduate students and 10 tutors of the three Universities participated.
The workshop took place on June 11- 17th, in the premises of University of Patras, Department of Architecture and the public presentation of the students’ work was held on Friday June 16th in the central hall of the Chamber of Achaia.
