Swiss-Greek mobile Seminar

13-16 February 2014 | Switzerland

After the preparatory meeting in September 2013 and the Joint Seminar Week in June 2013, new and promising possibilities could be tested. The Swiss Greek Mobile Seminar offered the opportunity to discuss all relevant topics for an integrated approach of spatial and railway development in Patras. Greek participants from the Municipality of Patras, OSE (Greek Railway Company), academic and professional fields as well as participants from ETH University and Swiss experts met to experience together different examples of rail integrated systems. The first visit was in Chur in order to see the combination of the normal width track of Swiss Railway with the 1m track of the Rhaetian Railway. Moreover, Chur case was a significant example of train crossing the ground level.  Afterwards, in Domat Ems the participants were guided at the industrial track. In Ardez/ Lower Engadine, the Test Planning Process was presented and analysed as a method with a possible implementation in Patras case. Additionally, all the challenges and the preparation material of such an initiative were discussed in order to plan the next steps. The organization of the next Test Planning project was based on the pretesting of the task and on the continuous meetings and close cooperation between interdisciplinary experts. Besides that, a simultaneous information of the public and interested stakeholders such as the Greek Railway Company or political actors was decisive for the implementation of a possible Test Planning concept.
